Fan-Shaped Shell
Both mollusks and brachiopods have fan shaped shells! The easiest way to spot the difference is the symmetry in the shell. Bivalve mollusks have two identical shells, making the valves mirror images (top and bottom). The oyster is an exception. Brachiopods are symmetrical at a right angle to the valve, making each half symmetrical (left and right).
